Who To See About Sports Injury?

This is a general query and not a request for medical advice.....

I developed a problem on Sunday during a run with sharp pains in the outer sole of my foot. I tried to run through it when I got a shooting pain up through my foot and had to stop and literally limp the two miles home. That night and again yesterday I could barely put any weight onto the foot - I had to walk on my toes to keep the weight off the sole of my foot. Today it's a lot better but is still sore if I put too much weight on it but at least I can walk. Now my question is who do I go to see about this or any other sports injury. As I see it my choices are

    1. My GP: will probably charge me €50 and tell me to go to A&E for an x-ray
    2. Swiftcare Clinic or similar - will charge €200 for a consultation and x-ray but will they be able to recommend a suitable recovery plan
    3. Physiotherapist – can I go see a physio without seeing a doctor first?

I know it’s a pretty naive question but who is the best person to see when you have a sports injury?

I was asking the same question myself last week after the marathon. I went to a sports physio place in the centre of Dublin and they are in the process of sorting me out. Seeing them again tomorrow and was €60 I think they charged me last week for about an hour.

Thanks for that. Don't know how I missed such a recent post:confused: If you found the phsyio good you might pm me the contact details as I'd like to get someone to have a look asap. I have a bad feeling that its a stress fracture (don't you just love internet diagnosis).

There are a pile of physios recommended in this thread. Maybe it should be made a sticky ... To answer your question, yes you certainly can go to a physio first.
