The S101 is pretty for the laydeez ,a Sex and the City netbook if you will , BUT its vastly overpriced and the WEBCAM is a dog at 0.3Megapixels.The U100 is the same as the Advent 4211 from PC World priced at 379 euro...It does have nicer coloured cases ...elara.ie sell the MSI U100 (Wind) if the nicer case is worth more to you check them out .There is a pretty new BenQ U101 worth googling....

mmm seems the BenQ is just the same as the rest. no advance or improvements apart from the 16:9 screen ratio!

MSI Wind [U100] vs ASUS Eee 1000H is more realistic, pricewise.

    I went for the 1000H.

Whats it like for watching dvds etc on? know the screen is small but whats the res like? would it wreck your head or is the quality pretty good?

Quite useless as they don't have dvd drives.

Downloaded dvd only of course! ;)

It's fine for watching DVD rips though. I watched all of Firefly on my 1000H and it was great; the battery life is outstanding and the screen quality/brightness is decent. The form factor is perfect for on the bus too.

The 1000h is definitely one to consider. I have the advent, and although i love it, the battery life isn't the greatest. Two and a half hours light browsing is about all i get.

I get about 4-4.5 browsing on mine, and that's with brightness near to max.

    1000H:
    • Better battery life
    • Draft-n wireless [rather than just b/g]
    • Multitouch trackpad - dead handy. Two finger scrolling is brilliant, and Three finger for changing windows is pretty useful too.
    Advent/Wind:
    • Cheaper
    • Looks better [The Wind does at least, not so sure about the Advent]

Not sure what the price difference is between the Advent and the 1000H..

Hmmm last questions then i suppose. 1000H comes as linux with 2Gb memory or 1Gb windows.. considering i can operate with both which would get the most out of the equipment? and is it possible to change the OS at a future time?

I don't think your info source is quite right :/
Last time I checked, both had 1GB of RAM, with the Linux version [the 1000] having a 40GB SSD and the Windows XP [1000H] having an 80GB SATA 2.5". They harddrives might have doubled since then actually, I heard something about the HDD one being 160GB now.

I don't think the Linux version's harddrive can be easily ugraded, but you should be able to change the operating system easy enough on both. However, the Linux version provided isn't great, I don't think many serious users keep it on their system - Ubuntu etc.

Mmm was looking at the asus website. and says the specs for the linux is 2gb. :( maybe its changed.

Does the 40gb sdd really improve performance over the sata?

cheers for all the info. much appreciated.

The 40GB SSD in the 1000 is a pretty cheap one, I think, so the performance improvements aren't that much.

I got mine from elara, but there might be cheaper ones out there. Also upgraded it with this RAM.
