Firewall Security Laptop

    Just wondering...

    At home, I have my laptop hooked up to the main broadband on wireless. I also have a Firewall Zonealarm. I'm wondering can people from the main computer in the house access my Laptop and nose through my files even though I have all the security set-up for my laptop on Zonealarm. If they can, how can I prevent this?

    Also, can MSN Sniffers etc break through my firewall as well, or is there any preventitative measures for this as well?

    If you want to be fully secured locally check your Zones and remove any that are marked as trusted (by default most firewalls will enable your local subnet as trusted and allow easy access). Zonealarm is a good product but personally I prefer Comodo (also free), for one you can create some very granular access rules so you could allow incoming connections on demand easily without having to trust your entire local subnet.
    Sniffers don't break firewalls though they are used to analyze traffic so if you are on a wifi connection and are worried what your neighbors are seeing your firewall doesn't come into it (it's already left your machine), after that it's a matter of your encryption and key strength.
    Can a firewall be broken? Sure with enough knowledge of it I guess and vulnerabilities do appear but Zonealarm (and Comodo) are mature products and very secure - there's just no such thing as 100% secure.
