Seasonal jobs for a 16 year old?

I tried searching but couldn't really find much info on this...

Going to try to see if we can find a job for my 16 year old nephew now up until Christmas but not sure on a couple of things.

Would he be allowed to work a full time job at that age or are there restrictions on this?
English is not his first language so that would probably be a factor but he does know it fairly well (learned it in school but never had to use it, from a western european country).

Any suggestions on where to go look? He has experience with working in supermarkets so was thinking of something like that but couldn't see any jobs on the major supermarkets websites. Would they maybe not advertise them there and would a walk-in be a better idea?

Any help on this would be much appreciated!

This will tell you all you need to know regarding the legal aspects: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/starting-work-and-changing-job/young-people-at-work/hours-of-work-for-young-people

If I were him, I'd walk into his local McDonalds and Tesco and ask for a job.

Thanks a lot for the link! Definitely answers my questions on the legal side of things.

Doing walk-ins is what I was thinking of doing but having absolutely no experience with this type of work myself wasn't too sure if there are places to avoid, places generally known as good employers etc...

When I was 17 I walked into McDonalds and got a job. That was a few years ago, but I would imagine they still use a similar system.

I'd say so but the thing about that is that he's really only looking for a temp job up until Christmas... I'd say McDonalds has some training involved and as such they'd be looking for longer term employees no?

Well, he can always say he will stay longer but leave anyway at Christmas. There's obviously some ethical issues with this, but it's up to you/your nephew how you feel about that.

Basically he is looking for a part-time job for two months. As a 16 year old, this isn't going to be easy. I reckon the likes of Tesco might be his best bet, as I would imagine Christmas is a mad time for them and they need temporary shelve packers.
