    3 pensioner ladies went in to buy a new radio, They picked one out, asked the assistant how much for that one ? 21 euro said the man.
    they all dipped into their purses and each gave him 7 euro.
    got the radio and left the shop. just then the owner of the shop came in and told the assistant he should have given them a discount cos he knew them, he took 5 euro from the till, gave it to the assistant and told him to go out and give them it.
    He was not very honest and pocketed 2 euro for himself and gave them back a euro each. so now they have each paid 6 euro x3 is 18 euro plus the 2 euro in his pocket is 20 ! where is the missing euro ??

    They've paid 21 euro - 5 euro discount = 16 euro

    = 5.333 each

    + they got 1 back from our dishonest cashier

    =6.333 each * 3 + 2 euro for cashier = 21 euro

    3 pensioner ladies went in to buy a new radio, They picked one out, asked the assistant how much for that one ? 21 euro said the man.
    they all dipped into their purses and each gave him 7 euro.

    So there's 21 euro in the till now
    got the radio and left the shop. just then the owner of the shop came in and told the assistant he should have given them a discount cos he knew them, he took 5 euro from the till, gave it to the assistant and told him to go out and give them it.

    Subtract five so there's 16 euro in the till, and the assistant has five
    He was not very honest and pocketed 2 euro for himself and gave them back a euro each. so now they have each paid 6 euro x3 is 18 euro plus the 2 euro in his pocket is 20 ! where is the missing euro ??

    Now of the original 21 euro, there's 16 in the till, one each in the old ladies' pockets and two in the assistant's pocket.

    Some people see problems where there aren't any :D

    Edit: the reason for the misunderstanding is the assumption that the old ladies have paid 18 euro to the shopkeeper. For all practical purposes, they've paid 16 to the shopkeeper and 2 to the assistant.

    total = paid + change
    21 = 18 + 3

    money paid - price = money cashier took
    18 - 16 = 2

    Its a variation on the old:
    "Brothers and sisters I have none but that man's father is my father's son" puzzle.

    A verbal rather than a maths prob.
