argos will usually have some deal on dslr kit - they had it on pentax previously and it seems nikon at the moment.

    sounds like a great deal.

i have a few slr,s now but i snapped it up as a back up camera and it is such a great little camera, and for those making the transistion from a point and shoot to an slr it has a great menu that will help begginers,by telling them what they are doing wrong,i strongly suggest this for a lovely entry level slr.

Hmm... how much do you reckon I could sell my (recently serviced and in mint condition) D70 for :P

    *wants a lovely light D40*

Oh, just as a point of information, you can get D40 kits (including an extra battery, cleaning kit, carrier bag, 4g memory card etc) on ebay for 370eur or something.

    Guarantee??

Hey Scotty, I already collected my BRAND NEW D40, is lovely!... Battery is already charged and I'm ready to start investigating it.

2 years official warranty, I'm hoping don't need it. (but is a big advantage buying a new camera)

I have a small memory to start, but I'm planning to buy a 8Gb Kingston SDHC Class 6. Few people recommended me to buy Class 6 as apparently there is a big difference on the speed of them. What do you think about that?

If you have any cheap shop where I could get this, will be much appreciated.

Thanks again for letting me know, about this offer :D

nikon offer a guarantee and a further 2 years if you register,i cant stand people who say ,buy from e bay , because when you get a camera that good that you can collect on the day for that price it doesnt make sense,

and the sd 6 is a good choice.

What a bargain! To think I paid a lot more than that for a 3MP Kodak P&S back in 2001. How times have changed.

I use the 7dayshop.com, but have a look at mymemory.co.uk as well (remember to add in the delivery) Rather than getting an 8GB card I would get a few smaller cards ( 2GB or 4GB at most) It is not a hassle to change a card & if you get a corruption then you don't lose as many images.

I got one last night in Blanch as a present for someone. It is still €299 when I got it last night. They have a supplement catalogue in stores with the code for the €299 price.....oops. Just checked the Argos site...it is back at €375...I was super lucky last night so!

What a Steal! Well spotted scotty38886!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I don't like about Argos, in getting a camera that is, you cant get after sales service - if you have any queries about it, they don't have a clue!!:(

True but they're not really a camera shop and the reason you'd buy there is because you'd get it cheaper than the camera store so you end up sacrificing the expertise.

To be fair to them - there is no one like them for an excellent returns policy.

ah but its not really covered in the returns, because its a sale item

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭AnCatDubh

as far as i am aware - it breaks or doesn't function properly and simply bring it back and you'll get a new one or your money back to the value purchased - kinda no quibbles. I've done that with a few items (non photography) and i'm really surprised by the no questions asked (well no hard ones anyway) as to why you are returning it. Could be wrong if things have changed but that was my experience.

yes that is on most items, but i know the camera is exempt as its up to the manufacturer, and is not covered in the 21 day return policy, shame really.

Doesn't change the situation tho, they can't give you any advice on the camera, and should it breakdown or be faulty, what happens if they don't have the same model in stock? Im just not going down that road of Argos, but I need to find a similar priced store to buy a Beginners Digital SLR camera.........Such a difficult decision as to which one!!!!!!!! Never mind where...:o

Except for a few top end stores, most cannot give good advice on cameras. At best the spotty sales assistant will repeat what's in the Sales Brochure. This does not apply to places like Gunns, Camera Exchange etc.

You are much better off doing your own research & then shopping around. The issue of that model not being in stock at any retailer is the same really.

Going to Mc Sweenys and O learys to see what they will offer.

Will let ye know tomoro evening what ive got (or if i've come home crying!:P)

ya the offer for 379.99 is still on. My bro got one earlier today in Dundrum. We were checkin online last night and the other Argos's in Dublin city seemed to be sold out. Best option is to get it reserved.
