Sky+ question

Do you need an up-to-date Sky subscription for Sky+ to work ?

I'm currently wondering whether it's worth getting the box, but if I ever let the subscription lapse and just keep the free channels, will Sky+ still work ?

I know there's no reason why it shouldn't, but given some of the restrictions on Sky boxes and their EPG (can't delete rubbish channels, restrictions re so-called "favourites" which an only be from the EPG, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a similar restriction on the pause/recording facilities ?

    Anyone know ?

You need active subscription to use the Sky+ features.

Its a Sky feature that your active card enables on the Sky+ box. When you let your subscription lapse its de-activated.

Had a feeling that might be the case; that it wasn't a proper PVR.......

    Looks like it's a waste, so. :(

    Thanks ongarite.

I tried something similar when I moved house, I was hoping to watch all the recorded stuff we had piled up while we were waiting to get the dish installed.
No chance, wont get past the first screen.

Ya gotta love them, really.......I've no prob paying for a box that does something, but to be handcuffed to Sky in order to make it work in the future is a con. Even the mobile phone companies let you off after the first year's subscription; your phone will still work!

Pity it's not a more customer-focussed company that has the monopoly.

Here's my wish list for Christmas for Sky:

    1) I want to add some "other channels" to my favourites
    2) I want to remove the Wedding/Baby/Celebrity/Gay/Religion/PatheticPorn/Style/Reality and paid-for channels from my EPG so that I can flick channels without them being in the way
    3) I want to be able to record stuff by paying for your box once-off

Hang on - gotta duck now because there's a flying pig coming my way!!!!

BTW - had an interesting conversation with a Sky rep about 2 weeks ago, where he was on about what a great offer the Sports package was; when listing it off he managed to only mention 3 things that I would be interested in, and those 3 would have been on RTE as part of my TV licence if Sky and Setanta hadn't taken them off us! :P

Here's hoping they decide to let us away with the PVR functions for free, some time in the not too distant future. I think from a technical standpoint, they could actually do it too.

maybe when more HD channels become avaialble and they get a bigger customer base as a result, they'll re-evaluate things.

There really is an amazing amount of crap on there, especially at the end of the "entertainment" list.
