Rent allowance & Unemployment benefit

    Hello,

New to Boards.ie. I have recently been made redundant, having worked in the job for 4 years, I have a month to finish and then intend to sign on until I can find more work. I live alone in a rented one bed apartment in D4 which costs €900 per month. My parents live in Swords though returning to live there really isn't something I want to do. Im 31.

My question is how possible is it for me to receive rent allowance on my apartment. Im afraid they will tell me to just move home. The apartment at this stage is my home.

    Thanks for all help,

    David

You need to be means-tested and put your name down on the local authority housing list to qualify for rent supplement.
Go to www.citizensinformation.ie and search for rent supplement.

It's unlikely you'll receive rent supplement based on your circumstances.
