One of the best casting decisions ever. How did they think he'd make a good knacker? Why did Brad even chose the part? Fecking brilliant.

Does anyone know if he hung around with knackers and stuff to get to grips with the accent?

No idea, but I'd agree one of his best roles to date.

I believe they prefer to be called habitationally challenged persons.

    Thanks

Couldint believe how well he suited the role. What made him so good was the fact that you could barely understand him at times ... made it so believeable!

    Feckin' great film!

    Haven't seen it

I havnt seen Snatch, but in terms of casting you only have to look at some of the more off kilter, offbeat characters that Pitt has played. (12 Monkeys springs to mind)

He is a very good actor.

Definitely one of my favourite actors.
He did indeed hang around with a bunch of "pikeys" to pick up the accent etc.

I'm pretty sure that in the orginal script you could understand Mickey perfectly and he just had an irish Accent. But it was BP who changed the character so that he talked the was he did. I'm also pretty sure he ad-libed his way through alot of the scenes, for example in the scene when you first see him he actually suppose to be having a sh!t behind a car (not in the script) BP just pulled down his pants off camera and pulled them up as he started his scene, its Hard to notice though unless you know it in advance.

Xavi & Eirebear I would advise you watch it its prob well in my top 10 movies of all time.

I would go as far as to say its crap like all of Guy Ritchies output.

    Yep I agree.

Terrible, but then there are some people who think Jason Statham can act.

It's only memorable because it's Brad Pitt, similar to 'Burn after Reading' in that you see him act goofy. You're not think 'whoa that guy playing the knacker is good', you're thinking 'whoa thats Brad Pitt playing a knacker, hes cool, edgy and must really be home with the downies'

I disagree. Playing a maniac is easy. IMO his serious roles are lacking.

Playing a maniac is easy....playing a maniac well isnt IMO.

Its easy to shout and scream and all the rest and get away with it, but to make it believable or memorable is another story.

I agre though that many of Pitts roles are fairly soulless...but does that maybe say something about his choice of roles rather than his skill as an actor?

Not only did Pitt do a great turn Mickey O'Neill in Snatch but he also helped popularise the term "Pikey" in Ireland (a term that had been pretty much unheard of in this country prior to the movie).

Travellers much prefer to be called by their official name "Pikeys" rather than "Knackers" which is considered offensive by a tiny (yet vocal) percentage of their community.

Pikey was a derogatory term for anyone Irish in england though....interesting that it should be their "official" title.

He was very good in Snatch yet terrible with an Irish accent in Devil's Own

He was good in Burn after reading (although JK simmons stole the show), Babel,Snatch, fight club, meet joe black,Seven years in tibet, se7en, legends of the fall, true romance, Kalifornia, a river runs through it, and as Randy in Dallas:cool: But apart from that he was useless ;-()

I believe Brad saw Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells and loved it so much he rang up Guy Richie and told him that if he was ever making another film he'd love to have a little part.
Guy was at the time sorting out Snatch, he was so thrilled that Brad called that he sent him the script and told him he could pick whatever part he wanted.
Brad picked the pikey and wasn't he fantastic!
