Boyzone in punch-up with Rihanna's band

Nineties Irish band Boyzone's comeback has been tarnished by a drunken punch-up in Sydney with members of R&B pop star Rihanna's band over the weekend.

The newly reformed foursome had been drinking in a nightclub when they stirred up tension over a girl in Rihanna's entourage, the UK Daily Mirror has reported.

Boyzone's Stephen Gately confirmed they did "get into a fight".

"It was over a girlfriend of one of Rihanna's band members — we just wanted to chat and be friendly and this guy tries to rough us up," he said.

"It was his girl and then all the other guys from the band start getting fresh with us… so it was on there and then."

A witness claimed "fists were flying everywhere" before security dispersed the commotion.

Rihanna and Chris Brown have been on tour in Australia since last week.

They headed to Perth after Rihanna's near-collapse during their Sydney show on Friday due to dehydration and smoke inhalation.

Boyzone — comprising Gately, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy — is currently in Melbourne as part of their promotional tour.

Gately admitted they had had "too much booze" and Lynch said they "hadn't slept for two weeks".

Members of the band have also been seen out in recent weeks with Delta Goodrem's fiance and former Westlife singer Brian McFadden before last week's brawl.

Famous for hit songs like 'No Matter What' and 'All That I Need', the band reformed last year after their split in 2000.

They plan to return to Australia on tour next August, with Keating claiming they will put on a "very sexy show".

Dontcha know that is how all the hipsters speak nowadays homes. What I couldn't get over was half the band were covered in tattoos on their forearms and neck ala Good Charlotte or Blink 182 stylie

After watching their performance on Rove I had that silly song in my head for days afterwards. I never actually thought much about them when they were around the first time.
