Don't expect a price cut this year for definite. Sony have said this repeatedly, they're still loosing money on the console afterall, although not as much as last year. It's kind of like the early years of the PS2, they'll start making more money from software and start breaking even on the hardware, and then we'll see a price cut. So like in 18 months maybe; then there'll be the PS3 slim in 2011-2 probably so we'll get an even better price cut then. Here's hoping they bring back PS2 BC!

An interesting piece of news that popped up last week was this. The PS3 sold more units than the Xbox 360 worldwide (by a relatively small margin) in the second quarter of this year, despite the 360 getting a price cut in that time.

Would you cut the price of your hardware if your main rival had cut prices and you were still outselling them worldwide?

Microsoft could make a killing over Christmas though. Don't know if that would make Sony change their minds though.

you would be lucky to get one in tesco,they were sold out very quick!! Im tempted to buy one today.... smyths are going a good deal of $400 for a ps3 & fifa2009

I was reading elsewhere that sony are making a cheaper version of the ps3 (cannot play ps2 games,less backend compatablity & smaller harddrive)...

I wonder how much this will sell for?

I believe you're talking about the 40GB version! You should really start to check the dates on the articles you read...

It's all right mate.

I have read they won't be reducing the price of the PS3 this Christmas. Though I would say that they are just waiting to see how the recent 360 price drop affects its sales.

This is probably going to be the PS3's best Christmas, as it has more exclusives than the 360. But the price is still a contentious issue. It is up to retailer's to come up with good bundles, if the price doesn't come down.

I got an 80g version of the ps3 yesterday in smyths for 380yoyos with fifa 09....not bad me thinks
