5.2.3 Except in the case of mature studentsthe adjacent rate of maintenance grant shall be payable in the case of a grant-holder whose normal residence is 24 kilometres or less from the college which s/he is attending.

5.2.4 The non-adjacent rate of maintenance grant shall be payable in all other cases, including the case of all mature candidates who qualify, having been assessed either as a dependent or independent mature candidate.

Am I interpreting this correctly, everyone over 23 (regardless of parents income) is entitled to the non-adjacent rates of grant?

    Thanks.

Yep, that's right. I've no idea why it is though.

Non-adjacent is the higher bracket of grant isnt it ? I'm over 23 and I'm on the lesser bracket! I shall have to get on them about that...

Just because you're over 23 doesn't mean you're automatically a mature student! You have to be 'classed' as a mature student when entering college, you can't become one by going 23 during college.

I believe you also have to have a break between your undergrad and postgrad to be assessed again. You do for a grant so I'd imagine it'd be the same, although I'm not too sure on that.

Im in BCFE - they count anyone over 21 as to be a mature student. I'm in second year now but was 22 when I started first year...that would make me a mature student surely ?
