Oh Mandy, i feel really sorry for you. I suffered post natal depression on my first child. You need to tell friends and family around you how you are feeling so they can help you. Just know that it doesnt last forever. Did you doctor recommend a councillor to you?? The most important thing is - let your friends and family help you through this, you have nothing to be ashamed about - there are many help sites ut there if you just google post natal depression.
By posting here i think you have made the first step in getting better, you realise you have a problem and need help and you will find lots of people offering good advice. x

    Hi,

I am male but have currently been taking an anti-depressant for 4+ years now. Make sure that you give it time to take effect as modern anti-depressants can be slow to take hold of you. Eventually, you should notice that your entire mood becomes 'mellower' and you will find that things which you once found difficult to cope with become easier.

    Take care,
    Kevin

The parenting forum could also be a good place to post this as I know some of the regular posters there have been where you are now.
    Good luck

i just want to say that it does happen to a lot of women, it happened to my sister and she managed to get through it fine so hopefully your doctor will be able to prescribe the right treatment for you and you'll pull through.
    good luck!

I know what you are going through, I promise you it will get better, I dont wanta go on and on...what helped me more than anything was a forum on rollercoaster, there are so many mothers with the same issue, it is very common, but please let your family and friends in, you need their support now more than ever..

Talk to as many people as possible.

My mother committed suicide this year, when going through her stuff I found post natal depression leaflets.

No one had a clue, she kept it all to herself. The mind is a funny thing, the more you talk about it to people to easier it will be to cope.

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss...you make such a good point, you have to talk to as many people as you can...your life, and future is at stake....do not mean to sound dramatic, but it does really effect you. It is a horrible thing to have, there has always been a stigma attached to it...well depression in general, but pnd can be worse, as you do not want to admit you have those feelings whn you have a child, you are suppose to be over the moon, but this isnt always the case...

thankfully more people are talking about it now, and more treatment is available...
