There are a few different ways of registering a .ie domain name

I have registered domains in the past without having a business name or company associated with the domain. I simply wrote a letter to the IEDR explaining why I wanted the domain.

Business name registrations are taking about 5 weeks at the moment, so if you apply for the business name now, and apply for the domain in two weeks, you should have the business name before the 30 days grace period (the IEDR reserve your domain while giving you 30 days to gather the relevant documentation) is up.

Alternatively try what blacknight said, but I have no experience of doing that myself.

Sounds interesting, what type of sites were they?

You are looking for the discretionary names category. Read the link in my last post.

Generally they were non-commerical or peculiar.

The more peculiar the domain is the less likely you are to run into issues, but the key is providing a letter that actually makes sense.

"I want the domain" is not a good excuse :)
