Simultaneous recording on Sky+ and dvd recorder

Apologies if this seems confusing. The Sky box will only allow 1 programme to be recorded at any one time. My son has set a series link for the new series of Top Gear. I promised the OH I would record something else, so I set the DVD recorder for that. The problem is I cannot watch the TV using the Sky box without turning off the dvd. Have I got my wires crossed. Both programmes seem to be recording but I have to watch the tv using the old NTL cable set up (the only reason I still have this is for the upstairs tvs).

Thats strange, if I set mine to record 2 programmes at the same time I just get a warning on screen telling me to cancel one of them. Must check the manual, cheers.

The SKY+ box has two tuners, so you can record two programmes at the same time. You can't watch a third programme off-air at the same time. You can watch a programme from your planner (i.e. one you've recorded previously), though.

who setup your skyplus? maybe they only did one feed from the lnd to the box thus only letting you record/watch one thing at a time. You should have two cables between box and dish

    Hi Sweetie,
Checked the leads, they seem ok. I rang Sky, you can record 2 programmes simultaneously and watch something already recorded. You cannot watch a 3rd live station while recording 2 others. Thats why I was getting the recordings clash warning. Put simply, the Sky+ box can only cope with 2 live functions at one time. Which as Tony points out is because it has 2 tuners .
    Thanks everyone !
