Depends really... if it's a medal or something and someone asks what i had, i'd say my nett score, e.g. ' i shot a 69'.

If it is a stableford competition, the answer will relate to the competition... i.e. 'i shot 36 points'.

Generally it would mean the person's nett score or their stableford points score. Some lower handicappers will give their gross score, but mostly only to other lower players.

It's the amount of strokes/shots taken.. it's fairly self explanatory imo.

As Graeme said, usually it's the amount of shots that they took minus their handicap. But to confuse things, low handicappers will often discuss what gross score they shot...

So an 18 handicapper might say he shot a 72 when he took 90 strokes. i.e. 90 (gross) minus 18 (handicap) equals 72 (nett)
A 5 handicapper might say he went around in 74 and this could be nett or gross and like Graeme said, if he's talking to another low handicapper the chances are it will be his gross score (74 - 5 = 69 nett).

Generally if you hear people talking stableford points (36 points is playing to your handicap), it will almost always be their nett score because you mark down your strokes taken and then calculate the points after every hole...

As a former golf pal of mine once said to me( as I was gettin a little bit ahead of myself at the time)..."You don't "shoot" a 79...You "have" a 79. You shoot a 69."

No probs... gross is how many shots you actually took.

Net. is that number minus you handicap.
