AK coversion kits

Thinking of gettin an AK, only problem is I have a red dot site which I would like to use and I cant find an AK-74 RAS that I can afford, one of those brackets that clips onto the AK giving it a rail on top, or a conversion kit that makes it an RAS version. Also I only buy guns from Ireland however I may be willing to buy the conversion kit outside Ireland off a trusted site. my price-range for the gun is €200 downwards but ill spend a bit more for the conversion kit. Any help will be appreciated.

I shud probably mention that the "i would like to use the red dot site" should have been in italics as if anyone knows of an AK with a good enough ROF I mite just be a "spray and pray" kinda guy and get a drum mag or one of those double mags on MIA...

What about this ak ? Since its a Kalash (Dboys isn't it?) would I need this if I wanted to mount a sight (EOtech)?

That type of mount will fit if the ak has a mounting plate on its side, the aks74 Kalash you linked to comes with one as standard so will fit that model ak without an issue, if buy a aks74u you might have an issue mounting as the rear iron sights on this model can get in the way of the mount.

The previous mount that was linked is only for the tm design and clones of that design as it uses 2 strews that help to hold the receiver and front section together as a way of mounting the rail onto the ak the vfc design and its clones use a different method of construction so the same form of mounting is not possible.

    Rails look shit on ak's.

    Use the iron sights.

If you must use it, get one of the kalashes and use the side mount as a mounting point for a rail mount, a full size ak74 will not have issues, the aksu as said above might.

well i spose everyone has their own opinions...

i dont really understand the side mount thing???

    One of these
    cyma%2520AK%2520side%2520mount.jpg

    Mounts onto one of these

    SidePlate.jpg

And you have a rail on top.

The kalash range come with side mounts installed as standard, then you get a side mount rail adaptor (the top thing).

Thats the rail that is mounted on the side of the kalashes receiver, they come as standard.

Some ak brands dont have them fitted and can be awkward to install, requires drilling the receiver.

so basically it makes life simpler???

Real aks, or at least eastern bloc ones use a side mount plate, optics are designed to mount directly to this.

For converting it to use western optics, you get the rail which attaches to the side mount plate, which has a western style 20mm rail on it.

The kalash comes with the side plate, buy the rail adaptor to have a 20mm rail on top, and you can mount a western style optic.

If you get an ak without the side plate rail, you can use one of those horrible ris things, losing the overall look of the gun in my opinion.

If you want a "tactical" (read that bastardised) ak that has rails on it, cyma and jg do yokes like that. I'd go with the old school look on an ak, its the whole point of them really.
