Just got a couple of new albums on lend, and I have to say I'm really enjoying them:

Miles Davis - l'Ascenseur pour l'Échafaud (Soundtrack from Lift to the Scaffold)
    Tord Gustavsen - The Ground
Eraldo Bernocchi/Harold Budd - Music for 'Fragments from the Inside'
    Ryuchi Sakamoto/Alva Noto - Insen
Evan Ziporyn - This is not a Clarinet

They're all ambient/improv in content, and all are very enjoyable especially at this time of year. Still have to listen to Volga - Pomol, Robert Dick - Venturi Shadows, Robin Guthrie/Harold Budd - Before the Day Breaks. No idea what the last three will be like but looking forward to sitting down and really taking them in. Anyone else listened to much of the above artist's work before?

The only one I am familiar with is 'Fragments From The Inside' - I borrowed it from someone a good while back, remember enjoying it alright.

I believe 'Before The Day Breaks' is excellent and I must buy this myself. I am very curious to hear it as I have just recently started listening to the Cocteau Twins and loving them - only bought 'Treasure' so far and it really is an amazing album, can't wait to buy more from them.

The only one I know is the Miles Davis album, my girlfriend has that one. It's very nice but I never really thought of it in terms of ambient music. An interesting take on it.

I've been meaning to check out Sakomoto for a while, is this a good place to start or is it representative of his sound?

Really recommend Frances White - Centre bridge (Dark river). Astounding electroacoustic/ambient work. Heard her on Lyric and bought the album.
Also listening to Aphex Twin a bit.

Well it's a fantastic album at least, I'm not sure how it measures against his other work though as I'm only beginning to listen to him myself. It contains a lot of long resonant piano notes being gently manipulated or accompanied by electronic noise. Good music to fall asleep to :)

If anyone is a fan of Eric Dolphy's solo bass clarinet pieces I'd recommend Ziporyn. He really shows how versatile the instrument can be.

Love the Miles Davis Album...found it in may local library years ago.

Have both the Ryuchi Sakamoto/Alva Noto albums, but you should get your hands on "Cendre" on which Sakamoto works with Christian Fennesz.

PS which reminds me has anyone had a listen to his new disc Saffron Revolution ?
