with the need to develop rugby in other european countries, is there a market for a european league made up from italian clubs, a couple of spanish and portuguese team and maybe a team from germany or beligum or romania.

    would it work?

I don't know if the sport is developed enough in the other countries you mention for it to be viable.

I don't know if taking one team from a league would work and you don't want a league to lose it's best players either when it is developing.

Possibly you could have a mini league with the Italian Champions and a "league select" of portugal, Spain, Romania, Germany etc. and it would be more competetive.

It could be run as an end of season / pre season competition or something and try to generate interest in the sport.

I think the European game is more covered for developing nations in the European Shield competition, but even then, the gap in quality is far too big. English premiership sides putting 70 or 80 points up on amatures week in week out in that competition cant be healthy.

I wouldn't mind seeing 2+ Italain teams join the Magners league though.
