Ok i have dell 5.1 speakers, 4 sat speakers 1 center and a sub too, took it from my old pc Worked well on that because of the sound card.
So now i want to use it with my tv and ps3 what else will i need to set it up. I cant just connect it to the tv or ps3 because of the connectors 3 x 3.5mm jacks and no where to put them. Well i have an adapter to connect it to the headphone jack but that wont make it work properly.
Do i need to buy an amp or receiver to connect it all and have it work right for the true surround experience, or will i just have to buy a full home cinema speakers and all

its kinda tricky to set up computer speakers with tvs and stuff because of the connections.

for the the ps3 you'll first need to convert the optical output to rca plugs which is no easy task. i cant even find one with google.

you'd probably be better off getting a small amp that would have pre outs, which you could then hook up to those speakers. to be honest though, an amp with full pre outs is gonna be about €600+ and you really would need better speakers with it

Hmm was hopin it would be just a case of buyin an amp or somethin.
Sure if worst comes to worst i could just buy a new 5.1 system for less than 200 and use that i suppose

yeah exactly, that was going to be my next recommendation. only bad thing is that to connect the PS3 to it, it'll need an optical input and that's not usually a feature on some of the cheaper ones

Ah that is a good point but i can also use hdmi but this one has alot of inputs and i think could fit the bill
