Ten people arrested in connection with a serious public order incident in Dublin on Hallowe'en night, in which two gardaí were seriously injured, have all been released without charge today.

It happened at around 11.20pm on Friday night at the junction of Dorset Street and Dominic Street in the city centre.

Both gardaí were treated in hospital for their injuries.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the incident.

What a fecking joke, do the Gardai have any power in this country

    One word: shambles

P.S. No I dont trust the gards, I dont trust them to find and convict a criminal if he/she beats up one of my family members, i dont trust a gard to convict a criminal after stealing and burning out my car, i dont trust a gard to convict a criminal after mugging me and robing my wallet.

I don't really see the problem. People are very often released without charge, then arrested again later on when the file has been prepared. There's only so long you can detain someone without charge. The Gardai have to operate within the law too.

Glad to see the press keeping an open mind

Again we do not have the power to detain a person more than what is set out in law and we do not have the power to charge a person for more serious offences such as assaults, thefts, riots, etc. All has to go through the DPP in the form of a file. Such is the law we operate under.
