    Hi all.

Anyone here have any experience using the 17-35 f2.8L lens at all? It's an older lens at this point, discontinued around 2001. It goes for about the same price as a new 17-40 f4L. Just looking for some advice on the buying front.

Also the date code has it down as being made in 1998. What are the drawbacks to a lens being that old? It does look like it's in perfect condition though, with no scratches on the glass or fungus.

I wish I could comment on the 17-35 but I can't. I can only say that the 17-40 is an excellent lens for the money. if you don't mind it being a stop slower it's a winner.

what body will you be using it on? both don't meet their full potential on a cropped sensor.
