    Haven't been myself but am planning a trip to Barcelona & found the website trav.com. They do loads of apts & I just checked it & they do Rome too (www.trav.com/Apartments/Italy/Rome )
    I know its not the same as a recommendation from somebody who has been there or stayed in an apartment but on this site they have guest reviews too.

    don't even bother with milan tbh (i personally thought it was rubbish). Rome is a million times better
