Right, My mate has an xbox which uses a wireless adapter to connect to his router, and it says he is connected on the adapter, but it wont let him connect to xbox live because it wont allow him to update.

Any ideas on what to do?

Use an ethernet cable to update, then try going wireless.

Does his machine have a hard drive or is it the Arcade.

Is it starting to update then failing? If so then it's a common problem, check the stickies to see the fix.

Has He changed his ppoe user name and password?

Try eircom1 as the user name and broadband as the password..
    Hope that does the trick

Also check the wirewall settings, reduce it to low if need be.
I got caught out again with this over the weekend after I had reset my router because the wireless signal kept dropping. The irony is that the solution I found using google was in fact the one I posted last year for the same problem someone else was having !

Yup, I had the same problem first time I connected my XBOX and JIP is correct. You need to lower the firewall setting on your router to LOW which will allow your XBOX to connect and run its update from the web.

Follow the advise as above - this topic comes up quite regularly on this forum. Think there's something about this problem in the stickies.
