heard about these in the uk? instead of owning a car you pay an annual membership fee then rent the cars by the hour. the cars are parked at stretigic spots in most towns you book online/ phone then take the car and use it for as long/far as you want/need. all costs are covered, ins/tax/fuel etc.. check it out

by "as you want/need." you mean...

sounds crazy. I'd totally abuse it.

You are charged by the mile, so the abuse will be felt in your wallet!

ah. I missed the "by the hour" bit!

what happens if I swap the tyres on it for worn out ones I have, or damage the car in some way, is the car inspected each time its brought back?

Good God looks like something Gormley dreamed up.

Where are the Veyrons and RS8s? At least they are worth sharing.

There was a supercar club (similar to ecurie) supposed to be starting in Dublin a few years ago but dont know what happened to it.

    *bump*

I'm thinking of trying to live without a car for a while (use the time to save up a deposit towards a fairly decent 2nd hand car next year perhaps) but I know I'll miss the convenience, so I was interested to hear about gocar.ie.

I love the concept but I'm having huge difficulties in justifying the potential cost. Long car journeys (say, my monthly drive to Galway from Dublin and back) over 2 days cost over €100; a five-hour gig with a distance of 30k (say, long enough to get you to Ikea and back) varies between €38 and €43.

Who exactly is this designed to appeal to? Has anybody here joined, and how do you manage to make it work for you?
