Is Holloween that bad?

I decided I'm taking my 16 month old son trick or treating. I wasn't going to but another mom has offerred him a lions costume so I figure I may as well make the most of it.

So, I asked another mum [she is a mum - she's English] who I meet in the playground if she'd like to take her tots *** and *** with us to trick or treat.

And she said "No thanks I dont want *** and *** celebrating evil spirits." I am aghast at this and also laughing.

I don't know why you are aghast. People place different values on different things. Many (but not all) Christians consider Halloween to be a celebration, however innocent, of the occult.

Granted I may have a skewed opinion, but I feel there is always a great deal of tension bubbling under the surface on these nights. For example, I quite convinced that the chances of falling foul to a heavy sack beating is much greater on Halloween.

No need to be agahst. There are people who hold to that view.

Alternately I am saddened that people still celebrate Christmas and take full advantage of teh day without recognising teh birth of Christ or Easter and the reseurrection of Christ.

People make of it what they will.

I personally look forward to the chocolate available tomorrow when I get the left overs. :pac:

Aorund here communities and churches have gotten to having dress-up parties withgames and treats. I spose its safer and warmer than trick-or-treating on the street.

I was just taken aback. I dont come across that many puritans too often. It seemed a bit of a killjoy.

    Killjoy doesn't come into it.

Our church held our annual Hallelujah Party tonight. Hundreds of kids come each year, both those connected with the church and a lot of the neighbour's kids. It's a fancy dress party - but the rule is no scary costumes. Everyone has a great time & many of the kids beg their parents to let them go to the Hallelujah Party instead of boring trick & treating.

I'm not a fan of Halloween (I guess most adults aren't) but I don't have a problem with my kids enjoying it and dressing up. I look at Halloween the way most Athiests view Christmas-mark the occasion without putting any emphasis on the origin.

I'm not sure about Holloween, but Halloween isn't that bad.

It is so bad (tacky/crass) that in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, it is the only night of the year the evil spirits say in.
