    Lads,
Quick theoretical ceist as I can't get my head around it.
During the game if a player gets injured a timeout is called.

What would happen say for example in the last minute of a game if a player gets injured and the team has no timeouts left? Obviously if he is seriously injured they can't just carry on.

Do the officials have a right to call a timeout ad if so what would stop a player faking an injury to have the clock stopped?

    Confused....

In the NFL it works like this:

    Inside final 2 minutes.
"A team cannot buy an excess time out for a penalty. However, a fourth time out is allowed without penalty for an injured player, who must be removed immediately. A fifth time out or more is allowed for an injury and a five-yard penalty is assessed if the clock was running. Additionally, if the clock was running and the score is tied or the team in possession is losing, the ball cannot be put in play for at least 10 seconds on the fourth or more time out. The half or game can end while those 10 seconds are run off on the clock. "

So there is really no advantage to a player faking an injury late in the game as if your team is losing or tied up and you need to take time to get an injured player off the field, a time out will be called but 10 seconds will be run off the clock. If there is less than 10 seconds left the game is over. If it happens a 2nd time then there is a 5 yard penalty and a 10 second run off.

Something like this happened a couple weeks ago, I think it was the cardinals and Travis Laboy was injured and trying to get off the field - 20 yards behind the offense. He didnt make it off the field on time so they were penalised.
