I tried in vain (just now) to set up an eBay account.
    I failed TWICE, WTF ?
First time it said that my e-mail was already in use, WTF, it can't be, can it?
Second time it couldn't verify my identity via my VISA card, it said the 'card identification' (3 digit no.) number is wrong, WTF ?
So, what gives ? any ideas ? Pls help !!

Mods: please move as suggested below by Kensutz

Morrisseee, if you registered a username you can get the code reissued

the link is on the right hand side of this page:

    https://scgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?RegisterEnterInfo&siteid=3&co_partnerid=2&UsingSSL=1

if it doesnt work, pm me your username

Just wondering why do a lot of board users look at ebay.co.uk when you can also use ebay.ie
    https://scgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?RegisterEnterInfo&_trksid=m38

It makes more sense if you are in Ireland to use the irish e-bay as all prices are displayed in Euro and you can still see items that you can on any other e-bay site. I see a lot of people on boards use the UK ebay and I do not understand why.

You can't though, thats the thing. I don't know why ebay does this, but a lot of the time I can find stuff on co.uk that I can't find on .ie, or .com. The .com site seems to be american oriented. The co.uk site with 'worldwide' checked gives most of the .com results as well as some of the european results that you don't get through .com. Then for some photo gear its often a good idea to seperately search through ebay.de and ebay.fr. You often get a whole pile more results. OTOH there's probably some option I'm missing or something.

Flux it. I still can't get onto eBay.
I followed *Dallas's advice, and I got an e-mail from them with a username (but I can't ever remember signing up, and I've no e-mail in my Inbox). But now I've no password !
And to 're-send' a password you must be resistered ! doh !
And to ask a Q on the form, you must be resistered ! doh again !
I'm really gettin annoyed with this.......argggghhhh ....

you find extra stuff on .co.uk because the sellers there havent ticked the box to say they post to ireland

People use ebay.co.uk, because ebay.ie is shite. All of the different regions of eBay seem to have been set up by different people/departments, as something that works on one, may not work on another. There have been numerous threads here about them.

I prefer to see prices in Sterling too, as I can easily compare them to non-ebay websites, and most of the ones I use are UK based.

Not always. Sometimes, a seller that lists an item as internationally available, still doesn't appear on ebay.ie. It's quite simply, crap.

You are registered, as your email is in use by eBay, and they've sent you a username, so use the Forgot Password Link, on the sign in page, and then fill in the security info. If you can't remember these, set up a new account.

This is not true. On ebay.ie if you go to advanced search and choose location you can choose Ireland Only, UK & Ireland, EU or Worldwide.

When I search for items I get listings from items from all over the world including France & Germany. Sure you'd be there all night looking for items on all the different ebay sites.

    You are registered
No, I'm not, or at least they are telling me that registration never completed, which I don't remember doing in the 1st place.
I clicked on the link but to no avail, it tells me I must be registered, catch 22 it seems........bummer!

were you talking to me or the other poster?
if you go on ebay.ie looking for lets say an ipod, you type ipod in the search box then assuming you want to see whats available to you from UK sellers too you just click "ireland & UK) and then anyone from the UK who has listed their ipod available to buyers outside the UK (either europe or uk&ireland only) will have their listing show up to you. same if you click to see listings available from sellers all over europe.

now lets say you go on ebay.co.uk instead of the ebay.ie site to look for this ipod. you see the same listings you seen in your first search, and maybe 2-3 times extra listings that werent in the first search. the reason for this is because the seller hasnt opted to post to ireland. their listing will say something like "seller dispatches to: united kingdom, or seller dispatches to: united kingdom, north america, austrailia - basically whatever countries they will post to)

ETA: also ebay.com is american orientated because it is for the american users, just like we have ebay.ie, canada has ebay.ca, UK has ebay.co.uk, ETC!
