I've been going to a boxing club in Baldoyle for a while but I live up past Clare Hall so Darndale would be more convenient to get to. What are the crowd like in there? Would I get battered there cuz I'm not from Darndale or do they have people from all over going there?

    Battered by whom?

The club boxers or the general Darndale folk?

I went to Darndale for years and I'm not from there and all was brilliant.
Anyway, in a club, expect to take a few slaps, some even hard.

Its a very disciplined club and a very high standard of boxer too, no messing is tolerated, do you plan on boxing as they are only interested in training fighters..its the best junior club in dublin tbh.

Yea walsh I meant Darndale folk who go to the club. Darndale doesn't have a bad reputation for nothing. Haha I don't mind taking a few digs in the club I just don't be getting hopped outside the club. If they're serious boxers in there and not just scumbags that wanna have an edge in street fights then it should be grand though.

cowzerp I'm still a beginner I've only been doing it for the fun and to keep fit but I'd like to get into fighting in tournaments and all that when I get better. I have natural boxing talent so I should take advantage of that. How long would you say it would take a beginner to get good enough to fight in those amateur tournaments if he was only going to the club 2 nights a week? I suppose that depends on how hard he trains and all that but would a year be a good rough estimate?

@BogWog - Id train for at least a year before going into the armatures, maybe a little longer cause your only training twice a week. Id image the average armature (in senior anyway) would train more than that. Depends on your age though
As for getting battered outside, can't see that happening, boxers seem to have alot of respect for each other and i've never seen anything happening in sparring causing lads to be annoyed with each other after it

You certainly wont get bashed by the boxers outside unless you start the fight, then your fair game. dont start fights and you'll be fine-most of the lads are sound anyway, Darndale people are the salt of the earth.

At 14 i was training in Darndale 5 nights a week and then doing my own training aswell, running mainly! before this i done school boxing twice a week for about 2 months.

i entered the leagues after about 6 months and won them by winning 4 out of 4 fights, then won the dublin's and lost to the winner of the all irelands in the semi's.. i was caught up then but most kids that age will always be a bit behind.

if you where an adult you would have serious catching up to do as some of the boxers would of been boxing from 10 years of age, a natural talent of a kid can fight with a few months training and catch up quick, but if your 18 plus then most likely you'll never catch up unless your a total freak! i say this in the nicest possible way!

ps, most clubs wont take on adults that are not competitive anyway.

I'll probably have to step it up to 3 times a week eventually then. Yea I noticed that. I went to a boxing club in Philadelphia for a couple of months and one here for a while and both clubs everyones sound with each other. Apart from school and work its the best place to make friends I've been.

Yeah cowzerp I'm not expecting to win any tournaments but I wouldn't mind fighting for the laugh. I only started boxing cuz my cousin in America did it so I went to his club then I realized I shoulda started doing it years ago. Better to start late than never though.

Cool, best thing to do is go up some night and tell them your interested and that you did a bit before, if they say no then at least you can still train in baldoyle, once in the club they will like you once you try your best, if your just messing about then your just in the way and will be kicked out, they are a very good club and have high standards, keep up the training as you clearly enjoy it, aim high and you never know how you could do..best of luck, and let us know how you get on..
