Guaranteed - By Whom

In the current financial climate of credit crunch potential bank failures etc etc and the need for the government to guarantee the banking system, I notice there are quite a few poker tournaments coming up between now and christmas that have quite large guarantees over them.

People have won tickets for them already and I was just wondering about the situation if for some reason the tournament gets "canceled" at the eleventh hour due to "unforeseen circumstances" or the guarantee gets pulled what financial redress ( if any ) could they expect to receive?

Is it the online company sponsoring a tournament guaranteeing it or is it the organizers?

I know PPP had to stump up an overlay for the Irish Open but I would imagine that would be an exception rather than the norm.

Christmas is always a time when money can be tight and certainly this year alot of people may scale back their events, but if you look at the schedule there seems to be an event every weekend between now and the Party Poker event in Galway at the start of January. Some weekends there is even more than one. Alot of these events have guarantees that look slightly generous.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I run the Cavan Poker Open and have been giving out tickets to this event since January this year and lodging the money for those tickets into a Cavan Open account.
That is how I get to ensure my guaranteed first prize of €25,000 and with such a large prize, the number of players will follow and the estimated prize-pool of €90,000 becomes more and more realistic each day.
This is the only way I can organise this event as i have no bookie sponsorship either online or offline and i personally stand by any guarantees I make and am personally liable for them.
