    Hi,

Just a heads up for the Northern Ireland members.

There is now a new Urban Krav Maga class opened in Northern Ireland.

Urban Krav Maga is a close quarter combat fighting system which uses techniques from various krav maga fighting systems and martial arts like BJJ,Karate, Mauy Thai, Judo, Boxing,Vale Tudo for example.

Unlike alot of other krav maga clubs like ckm Urban krav Maga have full contact freestyle sparring as part of their syllabus as well as the street defenses. These are tested in MMA bouts. The street defenses are tested in pressure tests.

At Israeli Fighting Systems Northern Ireland we are big believers in combat conditoning which involves tabbatta circuits, tabbatta sprints, kettle bells, tyre flipping, rope climbing, tyre smashing to name a few.

We have guys from many N.Ireland martial arts clubs who come down to cross train in krav maga.

We are an open invite club but out of respect to other martial arts and fighting systems clubs we ask that the guys comming from other clubs first check with their clubs if they are allowed to cross train in krav maga before they come down.

    Anyone interested please contact

    Paul - phpmcl@yahoo.com

    or

    Chris - chris.tweed@yahoo.co.uk

    Cheers

From your posting I can see that your heart is in the right place, but why not just call it MMA training and leave the Krav Maga title out of it ?

I'm sure your hearts in the right place too lol

I am a senior member of ckm but got my instructorship in UKM as it ticked more of the boxes for me than CKM did as for me CKM has alot of holes in the system and to be honest the management of CKM sucks.

UKM was founded by the old UK CKM director and head instructor Stewart McGill who has also got instructorships and trained in other krav maga systems as well as being 3rd or 4th dan in karate etc

If you check out the UKM syllabus on www.urbankravmaga.com you will see the hybrid training between Krav maga and MMA.

You will see all the usual krav street defenses such as punches, kicks, chokes, guns, knives, baseball bats, bottles etc but you will also see MMA/Vale tudo techniques which are tested in MMA bouts. Also check out Geoff thompsons animal day training videos as they have similar styles in sparring.

The street defenses are tested in pressure tests

As you prob know theres a huge difference in MMA training and street training - street training there are no rules, time limits etc

There is also an article in caged steel about how reality based training like krav maga and MMA cross over very well.

Hope that explains better what UKM is about.
