Airport Express Wireless Router

I just bought myself one of these as an early Christmas present and can't for the life of me get it to work. I have run the software, plugged everything in, and get the following light sequence:

    Green = Switched on
    Static Orange = Startup process
    Flashing Orange = Fault

I've tried everything and all it does is flash orange constantly. My macbook works fine through my cable modem with the ethernet cable, so I know the fault isn't in the modem. The userguide is useless and I'm stuck. Any help greatly appreciated!

It could just be a faulty unit.

Have you installed the Airport Utility you were given on the disc that came with the router? When you start that app what do you get? Does the computer even pick up the router (even if its flashing orange)? Have you tried resetting it according to the instructions in the manual?

I recently bought one too and found the setup to be not the easiest. Even with the Airport Utility.

I was setting mine up to stream music and the options in Airport to help pick the right option make little or no sense. It should be more straight forward really, like options of extend network, setup music, setup printer.....

So I can see how some folks have issues with it.

Persevere with it and think a lot about the options you are picking in Airport. You could just be picking the wrong option.

I recently just set one up for a friends house and had no issues with their iMac at all. Running a printer through it and everything. Maybe you just got a faulty unit. But Airport Utility is excellent in my opinion and use it often at home with the Airport Extreme Base Station.

To make things easier when you are new to configuring an APX, turn off Airport on your Mac, connect it to your Mac using an ethernet cable, and then reset the APX using a pen in the reset button until the LED flashes fast.

When the APX is back at factory settings, set it up using Airport Utility (without security if you think that might make things easier to start) and when you think it's correct, turn Airport back on in your Mac and see if it works then.
If so, use Airport Utility to add WPA security.

Feel free to ask about the possible settings on here...

It was all going so well...almost. Managed to get through Airport Utility, green solid light, picking up signal but no connection....as in when you launch Safari or Firefox it says it's not connected to the internet.

    But it gets worse.

Now that I have the solid green light my MB isn't picking up any signal from it despite scan after scan after scan. I did what appeared to be a successful hard reset to restore the factory defaults but still the green light and no signal.

After playing with it daily for the last couple of weeks I am losing the will to live.

    Suggestions:

    1. Try checking it through an ethernet cable to see if the settings are ok?

    2. Do you have access to another Mac to try that with the AX?

    3. Have you tried other WiFi settings (802.11b/g/n)?

    4. Can your own Mac see other networks?

    1. I tried it with the ethernet but Airport Utility isn't picking it up as being active. My internet connection works fine with an ethernet cable and just the modem.

    2. No other macs :(

    3. Checked all the other settings, nothing out of the ordinary.

    4. Yup, can see lots of available wireless networks, all WEP protected.

    I'd look at a warranty claim... :(

I've never had the need, but can one get telephone assistance with a new product, just to confirm everything, and get a return organised?
