On NTL, do I need to worry about Digital Terrestrial?

    Hi,
Currently on NTL Digital. Also have a couple of analog points in the house.
Am looking to buy a Sony 40W4500. Its obviously cheaper up the north, but some people (including myself) are wondering if this TV can handle MPEG4, or will it be just MPEG2 (for UK).
But do I need to worry about this?

How will NTL handle the conversion from analog to digital? Will it come down the same cable? Will my analog points just work?
Or will I need to install an aerial on the roof?

    Sorry for the silly questions

    Gar

First of all the Sony Model you are looking at does have an Mpeg4 DVB-T tuner. See http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=57613882

Secondly this tuner will allow you to receive the free to air services currently on the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Platform (currently RTE1, 2 Tv3 and Tg4 - and 4 RTE radio services).

NTL "digital" is not DTT. There is no connection. One is a commercial company, the other is a digital service being rolled out by RTE.

Yes you will require either an aerial on your house or an indoor aerial for DTT depending on your proximity and line of sight to the transmission site (for Dublin - 3 Rock).

If you wished to continue with receiving NTL Digital just scart the NTL box to the Sony (Do NTl Digital Boxes have HDMIs - dont think so).

NTL Analogue will be turned off at an unspecified date in the future entirely unconnected to the DTT turnoff. Your analogue service will stop working then, by this time NTL will likely have tried to sell your digital multiroom anyway.
