So I come out of my house today and fire up the bros. I pull of and realise she's only firing on 3 cylinders. By the time I realise one of my leads has been cut, arcing on the cut bit of cable has started melting other cables around it. It was dark out so I couldn't see the extent of the damage. Anyway I showed up for work on the bus an hour late cos some dick cut my HT lead. they even took the bit that goes onto the plug so i cant even just rejoin it. WHY the...?

Can i pick up a lead in any bike shop?
Do they differ from bike to bike?

    scum!

should be able to get leads handily enough, the bro's is very common. Though I thought it was a twin..?

firing on three cyclinders with a Bros? Thats a new one. Any bike or car shop should be able to supply the cable for the HT leads but not the connections.

HT lead and plug caps available in most places. Dunno about connecting it at the other end though, sorry.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
OK, so 4 spark plugs doesn't mean 4 cylinders?

Is twisting 2 HT leads together and covering with electrical tape likely to last long?

Normally it would mean 4 cyclinders unless it's twin spark like some BMW etc. Last time I looked a Bros didn't have a twin spark setup. Are you sure they're the HT leads? Maybe send us some photos.

Just in case of confusion. HT lead is heavy insulation around a copper core. Runs right to the plug cap. Id replace, not bodge, never heard of that working.

I agree, theres something like 20,000 volts passing through, insulation tape wont do the job.

Ur lucky u didnt get burnt!! Yea the BRos has 2 cylinders- 4 spark plugs gives more reliable power! Try Cityspares for a spare lead- i wouldnt recommend a repair!! www.cityspares.ie

OK. I'm sorry but I went for the bodge-job. Just didn't have time to find a replacement. I will replace it soon though. Anyway, here's what I did, It's working fine btw; I cut a selftapping screw with a snips so that it has 2 pointy ends, screwed the 2 leads together, wrapped a roll of insulation tape around it and voila!
I imagine that the suppression is bad since it's 20kV. Every TV on the street probably goes fuzzy when I start her up but the bikes running fine.
    DON'T TRY THIS!
