mac to pc, word document issues

I've found in the past that switching between mac and pc when using the same Word document can be a hassle because things like Celsius signs and other symbols (important as I do scientific work) don't come out right, if you make them on mac then are viewing on pc.

Do the latest versions of Word for mac and pc still have this issue? It really bugs me (and my supervisor!).

This probably won't help but could you try converting your docs to pdfs - your supervisor should be able to read those without losing the symbols and such. Probably not much use if he wants to use track changes etc, though.

If you go to print the doc there's button for pdfs which allows you to create one.

yeah, i've had the odd change when i save powerpoint files as pdfs, then go to view that pdf on a pc - things on the page just move about in odd ways... even though you'd assume it being a pdf it would be unstoppable!
thanks for the advice though :)

i just hoped that the latest office for mac/pc might have sorted this.
mainly cause i am using research money to buy the latest mac and i'm sure my supervisor would like to know i won't be wasting his time when it comes to sending him files to view on his pc... can't wait to buy it!

Do Neooffice/Openoffice have the same glitches?

TBH i've never tried them, but i've been reading about them in the last while. Might be worth a try. thx

Presumably it's a font issue. The font you use on the Mac is not the same on the PC - the solution would be to use an OpenType font on the Mac and copy the font to the PC where you are intend to edit the document.

that makes sense. but sounds a little confusing to sort. I may just give it a shot, after googling it :)

I was wondering if I bought parallels and just ran office for pc, would this solve my issues? or if it's a font issue as you suggested, then perhaps not...

The new Office for Mac 2008 claims to fix those issues...I haven't tried it myself though.

ok, just bought word 08 for mac and have tested out saving documents in windows word 07 and tried back and fourth with celcius signs and there were no problems! the celcius sign used to always disappear on me when going between mac word X and whatever pc version. anyhow, thought i'd clear that up for anyone else :)
