    My bro ordered one of these......"Aspire 5715Z 4A4G32MI"....for my parents for chrimbo to replace their aging Pentium 3 desktop!
    It comes with 4Gb ram, 320Gb HDD, and has a Pentium dual core processor (I think its a T2390). Is this processor any use?

    It has Vista Home Premium installed. Is vista really as bad as people say?
    Would I be better off putting XP on it? Bear in mind that they both are use to XP, but I doubt would have a problem with change i.e. Vista.

    Also there is only MS Works with it, I really don't know why they even bother putting this on computers. I've read here before about Open Office, thats free and is the same as MS Office. Is it as good/useful? or should I just get MS Office?

    Open office is fine for most people, I doubt your parents need anything more. The laptop he got is quite a good spec (loads of ram and a big hard drive). The processor is grand too, should handle everything they'd throw at it.

    Vista used to have problems mainly with older hardware. Drivers have been released and service pack 1 has been released so it's grand now. We got our mum a vista based laptop last christmas and I was thinking about putting xp on it as she had never used any os other than xp. I eventually decided to leave vista on it and if I noticed she was having too many problems getting used to vista I'd install xp then. I'm glad I didn't waste my time putting xp on it. She hasn't had any problems adjusting to vista and it's still on the laptop to this date.

    @lafors,
    Does this laptop have an integrated camera? I can see it in a pic of it but its not on the spec sheet?
