I was wondering why a 4 pin cable will not work in a port that works perfectly with a 2 pin cable? (The ports are RJ-45 ports and the RJ-11 obviously plugs into the phone).

If it was the other way around I would understand. Btw this is the cable that I am using: click

It sounds like the wiring on the 2 cables is different. One might be straight through and the other crossed over.
