Need advice on Front Door & Frame

Hi Folks (hope this is the right place for this query). We live in an exposed area and our front door has given up the fight. It has always been extremely draughty and both door and panels are leaking when the rain is blown against it. We have decided on a PVC door + frame as a replacement. So...

    1. Anyone think this is not a good idea or is there a better alternative?
    2. Is there any Energy Ratings associated with PVC doors and frames(that we can ask the dealer about) so we know the same problems wont persist?

    Thanks guys!

Any chance of building a porch with an external door on one side (down wind), then the door will be shielded from the rain etc

Fraid not. The front door area already comes out of the house like a porch and the front door and panels meet the wind.

We are hoping that the PVC doors will stop the cold getting in altogether....

There's a couple of recent threads on windows in particular if you want to have a look back through them you may pick up a couple of tips.

Quality and good fitting is the key so dont jump at the cheapest.

There's a new product on the market which might be worth looking at.
GRP doors. They come in a range of colours and they look very like timber.
I know they are expensive. Unfortunately i can't think of the name of the company that does them.

Try an insulated door system. There are a few suppliers on the market, PM me if you want the contact details for a joiner who makes them also.
