You do need a HDMI cable to display the PS3 in HD, but do not spend €100 on one. I spent €40 on mine and people say I was ripped off. You can get a HDMI lead anywhere that sells HDTVs or PS3s generally. Just get the cheapest you can find, as there is little difference in quality between them.

Out of interest, which shop? It's interesting that this particular myth is still doing the rounds. Trying to rip off a customer for over 80 euros is just vile really.

Good idea... name and shame. Unless you're getting a cable longer than a few metres, there's no need to spend much at all. It's a disgusting practice, alright.

I don't know where the OP was, but I saw the same nonsense in Currys in the Pavilions S.C., Swords. They had 3 flat screens set up beside each other to compare scart, composite (I think) and HDMI. And this was being used as a sales pitch to get some clueless pleb to buy an overpriced cablefor his new LCD TV.

The salesman was giving it loads but I interrupted him. Told the customer to go to Tesco and buy one instead - they were up to 139.99 in Currys!!! I'm probably not welcome back there :D Like it matters - overpriced UK-spec gear.

There are philips ones in tesco at the moment for 2.50e!!. Theres a thread on it here. There 1.5metre ones too.

Got two of them today and it works perfectly with my ps3

Didn't have any HDMI cables in the Tesco in Sligo.

Spotted one for a €10 in Zavvi so might just get that!

I bought one of those recently and it only lasted a week before dropping out/causing sparkles and so on.

Bought an even cheaper one subsequenly on DealExtreme that works perfectly.

Yeah, shops specialising in AV equipment tend to screw you on the price of AV cables.

I bought this one on Ebay for €4 last night anyways: http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=370092671522

You do need a HDMI cable to display the PS3 in HD,

I have to (OCD) point out the fact that componant cables are perfectly capable of doing this also.
