Ive been hearing alot about cable boxs and ive decided to buy one . When i went looking at tv box websites there are so many diffrent ones .I persume i can only get a mmds box as i have no underground cable .

Do i need to but an ariel as well ? I have a sky dish and a chorus ariel but i know its against the there terms and conditions to plug into them .

And out of curiosity ,if someone did plug it into them would the box receive All the channels or is it just myth ?

Any body bought these boxs and what companys ?

    any info apreciated

    Totally illegal.

There is no FTA cable or MMDS. It's Subscription only and the Cable Company (Usually UPC now owners of Chorus/NTL) decides the equipment. There are two smaller cable companies, Longford and CaseyVision. They have no free channels either.

Only TV aerial and Satellite Dish have a free channels.

It's not just a matter of Terms and Conditions. Cable/MMDS is subscription only. It's criminal to try to get free channels.

Sky box is yours, not Sky (unlike Chorus MMDS box) and you can cancel and have just free channels or buy your own box for Free TV on Satellite (TV aerial needed for the 4 Irish Channels). Or even legally buy a Pay TV satellite box for a non-Sky PayTV service as long as you use real card & Subscription.

Cable/MMDS is more restrictive by T&C and EU and Irish Law.

Thats where i got mixed up so watty . I need to buy a sat box so to receive the free to air channels and not a mmds box .
Thanks for the info ,much apreciated ;)

    BTW, Welcome to Boards.

See the threads in Terrestrial about the new Digital Terrestrial service too, though it's a bit soon to be buying a box for it just yet.

Satellite, Cable and Terrestrial Digital use incompatible systems due to the differences in signal level, interference, amount of channel space (spectrum) and noise.
