Map of DEDs?

All,

I'm looking for a map of the country's District Electoral Divisions (DEDs) in order to do a project analysing census population data.

Given that the country's census data is grouped spatially by DED, I'm kinda surprised that I wasn't able to find a simple, free, publically available map out there for download.

Anyone got any ideas?

Unfortunately what's on the CSO site is of little use. I'm looking for something that's more detailed and which shows the name of each DED in the country.

You can download shapefiles (a well known GIS format) of DED's and other boundary data from the CSO here: http://beyond2020.cso.ie/censusasp/saps/boundaries/census2006_boundaries.htm

It's not as accurate as the version that the Ordnance Survey sell, but it's free for non-commercial use. The OSi version costs something in the order of 10k per annum.

You will need GIS Software to use these, a free option being ArcExplorer from ESRI Inc. You can get that from here: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/explorer/index.html

That's great, ManAboutCouch. Looks like it will take a bit of figuring out, since I've no experience with any of this software, but thanks nonetheless!

Just to say that, for Dublin City and County, the Electoral Area Committees have a reasonable map (with road detail) at http://www.electoralareacommittees.ie/reports/dcmapsa&b.pdf.They also have maps for other jurisdictions (http://www.electoralareacommittees.ie/ and the maps are included in the appropriate chapter for each local authority), but these show only DEDs and electoral areas (no roads etc.), so they may not be sufficient.

Other than that, I think various local authorities have DED layers in their online GIS mapping, but I imagine it would be incredibly tedious to use for more than one or two counties; the shapefiles might be the only option in this situation.

Of course, for quite some times they have been EDs, not DEDs.
