wind turbines

    Hi All,
    I was up in Co. Down recently and couldnt get over the amount of wind turbines which domestic houses and farms had. Do the UK government give out grants for turbines?
    would be interesting to see if anyone know anything about their viability/success up there...

    This post was a while ago. Yes, there were grants in N. Ireland, but the main difference is that the equivalent of the ESB up there pays 11.9p sterling for any unused electricity. Here, the ESB has only recently offered to buy the stuff at all, (at a price of just 9c so far). Lets see if the CER raise that and we'll see a few more turbines around here too!

    I agree with Quentin.

    Another incentive would be to have a grant similar to the wood pellet boilers.

    Removing the VAT would also help.

    Isnt crazy that vat is charged on renewables.
    And 21.5% on CFL's....pure maddness.
