Upgrading to satellite

I am looking to upgrade from the four basic Irish channels to a satellite service. I don't want to spend a lot of money so I don't want Sky. Freesat seems to be the way to go. I will be in Enniskillen tomorrow and am thinking of buying this Grundig model from Argos. Couple of quick questions as I have no experience with satellite systems. What kind of dish should I install with this? How do I get the Irish channels to work with this box? Do I need to split the cable or is this done through the box? Thanks in advance.

Normally a 60cm dish will do fine here in Ireland. there are many suppliers around, most are listed in the sticky at the top of this forum.

You will not get the 4 Irish channels with this receiver. You will need to use an aerial to get them and then tune them in on your tv.

why not get the HD version.

The HD version is more expensive and I don't have a HD TV so I don't need it.

Can I put a splitter on the line to the attic and have it go to both the aerial and the sat dish or do I need two separate feeds for the TV? I am hooking it up to a Yamaha home cinema system so I have plenty of inputs.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

you can use a diplexer to do this in the attic and then one next to you tv to provide tv and sat inputs if the existing cable is of sufficient quality
