Milan can come across as an awful place if you don't know where to be going. Many good hotels are located in what appear to be run down locations. There is a trendy eating and drinking district and of course the designer shops. Unfortunately it's been a while so I can't remember the names of places. :(

there is a lot of plazas the main one being Duomo I think that has the big cathedral and the designer shops.

For drink and craic try the canal district. Subway is great and easy to get aroundon.

When you go to the train station just go to the machine put a euro in and press the button for a ticket-can be very confusing and there is nobody there to help except the romanians who keep half your money! Seems the 1 euro ticket covers you for any 1 journey or there trains.

The business district has some nice hotels and its very handy to get in and out of town using the train. I would avise looking on trip advisor for a hotel within your budget.

The bus in from the airport is ok and leave you right at the Central Train station, thats why i liked staying there because it was handy for a short weekend when we were arriving quite late.

The shops in around the Duomo are very good and i would recommend doing the San Siro tour-even if your not a big football fan it is still interesting.

If you wanna go to see Milan's most famous tourist attraction Da Vinci's Last Supper then you'd better book it soon. There was a 6 week waiting list when I was there last year but that was in summer, Id expect it not to be as long in winter. Either way you have to book tickets in advance, if you just show up you wont be getting in.
