You can only get NAT3 or NAT1 on netopia router.
If IP address is timing out or failing then you are not connected to your router at all.

By NAT1: connect via PPoE on PS3. Auto for DNS address and everything else. But you will need your SSID and your WEP/WPA key if you are going wireless. Disable media sharing on PS3. Also, are you doing MAC address filtering on the router. If so,enter the MAC address in the allowed section. How to get this MAC adrress from your PS3 is on the PSN website.

    bull, i'm nat 2,

OP you need to turn off the built in netopia firewall, its on medium by default, eircom released a firmware update for it, i'd recommend it also, it has built in automatic port forwarding for playstation network in it

    Thanks for the reply.
Ok so i had all that done but am still getting the message. It gave me nat type 1 once - but couldn't sign in or anything. I just cant understand it. I checked the pppoe username and password by disconnecting on the router page and reconnecting so thats ok. Have my network key so thats not the problem. Checked spelling over and over and still no change. the video says keep trying but have done this about 100times now. Have the router firewall off so thats not it ether. I even restet factory settings on the router configured it again but still nothing.

    God i hate netopia routers

    Random,
Use broadband1 for both username and password. It worked for me after about the 5th/6th attempt.

Why would you turn your hardware firewall off. You offer no protection whatsoever to anything else on your network and are relying on AV software on your PC's to protect them.

NAT 1 method for playstation circumvents the router and is not protected but no viruses built for the PS3....yet!

Randomperson3. This method works. Cannot see why router firmware can be an issue but did you try upgrading. I wonder if your signal to the router is strong enough. Can you move the router location as a test and connect ?

    Ya ill try that.

Just another thing - on the router page if i click disconnect so the internet doesnt work because it has no IP address i get nat type 1 when i test but am unable to connect to the internet or even sign in. and when i connect on the router page and enter the username and password when it connects and i test my connection on the ps3 it fails again with ip timed out. i hope that makes sense

ya im definitely getting a good enough signal 87% when i connect using static IP - firmware is the most up to date available.

Sounds like your router will only allow one internet connection at a time. It should not be able to see your PS3 when connecting PS3 by PPoE. I have the "block wireless bridging" box unchecked on the router wireless setup. Not sure if that is related but you are bridging the router. IT expert will kill me on that but try it.

Just some observations as I followed the youtube video and got NAT1 working (have firewall set to low usually for torrents/port forwarding). However the only thing this video does differently compared to setting up the connection automatically on your PS3, is that it 1500 for mtu for some reason (anyone know why?), and uses BroadBand1 as username and password (instead of the default which I think is Eircom or Eircom@Eircom.net for username and BroadBand1 for password). There is no use of static ip's, using DMZ's, entering in ip's for eircoms servers manually etc..

However for some reason though when you use BroadBand1 for username and password, it gets your the NAT1 connection, as I have noticed using this combination no longer assigns your router 192.168.1.254 but some completely different address in a different range. As you are bypassing the router I assume, it is also the reason why you longer can access it's webpage. And I've also noticed that since the latest ps3 firmware upgrade setting the username and password to BroadBand1 causes the PS3 to take longer to connect to PSN after bootup, sometimes giving an error.

Does someone know why using BroadBand1 as username and password gets you NAT1 ?

i can connect to the internet using nat3 but its only EA games i have an issue with - i can't host matches/games on TW08 / FIFA 09

tried the "keep it carlow" route but getting the IP timeout.
Checked my router page and username is eircom@eircom.net and password i presume is Broadband1 (would capitals make a difference??)

I tried putting in braodband1 in for username & password and no joy (but again - didn't use caps??)
