    Hey lads an lassies!
Hope to be doing this course next year but couldn't make the open day with other commitments, I was just looking for some general feedback on the course and the IT itself.

Is the course interesting, bearing in mind I would love to eventually pursue a career as a pilot and I wanted a college degree that would be relevant in the long run.

What’s Carlow IT like as regards facilities, socs etc? How does Carlow town fair with nightlife, things to do?

Just wanted the current students opinion to see if its what the prospectus makes it out to be :D

Aircraft systems is great course. its perfect if you want to be a pilot, but cant find a job, you can work on the shop floor and make your way up. the facalities in carlow it are perfect for aircraft systems, as there are two aircraft to work on, some of the lecturerers on the course mighten be great but if you find a good 2nd or 3rd year, you should be fine.
as regards societies, there are many societies, catering to different tastes, you just have to find your niche, everything from computing, to the LGB, politics, to airsoft(air powered rifles). you name it we got, if we dont start it!
the nightlife, well i dont like this town for its nightlife, drunken revelers arent really my thing, but we have 2 clubs, about 7 young person pubs, a couple of off-licences. be honest some of the pubs have a good atmosphere, better then a good few i have been in dublin. so some recommendations there. i know several ppl who would recommend the nightlife in carlow.
only problems with carlow it as it stands is parking. Carlow I.T. it is nearly impossible finding a legal parking space after 9am, and now with clamping/towing in operation, you cant cheat the system, but houses in the nearby estates are plentiful, so you should be able to find a house within walking distance

Cheers aynon thats exactly what I wanted to hear :D

Sounds like a great college, speaking of accomodation is it handy to get houses/apts nearby and are the expensive as regards rent?

Accomodation is easy enough to get. Southern Gardens is a decent place to live, and its about 2 mins walk to the college. I stayed there for two years, and there is always a decent crowd of students around. I paid about €70 a week when i stayed there, bills included (for the most part). Carlow was a great college town. Dont let some of the naysayers on this forum tell you otherwise.

southern gardens is probably the highest quality accom. just make sure that you look at a couple of different houses, before you amke your decision.

And make sure you start looking very early for accomadation if you are aiming for southern gardens or college green. I mean, the end of the previous college year, early.

Cheers lads, what makes Southern Gardens good, the facilities? just the laugh with the other students?
And €70 a week seems pretty good
