Im thinking of getting one of these... first electric so im not *too* worried about quality.. kinda want it as a project guitar, maybe over next 2 months or so il get new pickups + other bits n bobs to suit it more to me..

more importantly, any input you guys can give me on its specs from what thomann tells us?

Don't expect the guitar to be good. If you don't know how to set up a guitar, it's doubtful that the results would be great. If it's your first electric guitar to own, you'd get a much better second hand guitar for that sorta money

yeah if its your first electric id buy a made one as there is A LOT to learn about them first!! im almost finished a strat build now and sometimes i wish i had just bought one!!

Don't get that. It's a Saga kit under another name. Total rubbish, don't expect anything to line up properly. Electronics are worse than rubbish.

    Buy a complete guitar.

I was thinking about eventually doing something similar starting with my Squire as a base and leaving nothing but the body and Hotrails, changing everthing else. I know the complete kits are supposedly all made to fit and line up with scale lengths and all that jazz, but is it madness to go down this road?

OP - first electric you get should inspire you to play not p*ss you off. If the quality is as bad as the guys say I'd go down the pre-assembled route.

Buy a SX and upgrade what you feel needs upgrading. The SX are pretty decent for the money and you'll get experience of working on guitars without having to build the whole thing from scratch.

I did the same thing as Al before, I bought an SX and upgraded it to my taste.

I also put a lot of trickery under the hood. More info and spec here.
