Help with camera zoom ranges

Hi all, First post in this forum, be kind :).

My problem is deciding on a new camera. My main use is taking pictures of aircraft, mainly from afar, eg: on other side of an airport or flying overhead me.
Im currently using a Panasonic Lumix FZ7 with a 12x zoom. (has 35mm eqv. 36 - 432 printed on it also)

Problem with this one is it dosent seem to have the range i need.

Was looking at getting a camera with changeable lenses but im a bit confused as to the ratings of lenses etc (in mm)

I was looking at a SONY DSLR A200 with 2 lenses 18-70 and 75 - 300 for 600e. (which is my budget limit)

Do you think this package will help me in getting those farther shots or am i better off sticking to my F7Z and saving my money?

The 300mm lens on the sony will give you roughly 450mm equivalent which is not that much more than your Pany, though picture quality and the general responsiveness of the camera should be better.

If you can push the budget a bit more then your best option is probably the Olympus e510 or e520 long zoom kits which will give you 600mm equivalent, anything with more reach than this would probably need to be on a tripod, as the lenses will be a lot heavier.
