I have been trying to get 8346 megs of data (not a movie) on to a dual-layer DVD. Nero burning rom will only allow 8152 megs.

Try Nero Recode (if you have it as part of your Nero package).
That should shrink it to a size you want, if my memory serves me right - but that might just apply to movies.

Have you thought about file compression? Winzip, Winrar...

if it's not multimedia then try www.7zip.org if possible reorder similar files together

    if it's multimedia sound/video/pictures then re-encode them

overburning on a CD is fairly common
overburning on a dvd - not too sure

Thanks for your replies - The source files (CS4) came from 7zip (about 5.5 gigs), however I need the file to be uncompressed for installation purposes. Information on over-burning dual layer DVDs is limited so I will continue my search.

(I'll probably wind up getting a blueray burner within a year or so, which will solve my problem)

Are there any files within the archive that you could remove and load from CD or HD if needed ? I know it's unlikely - 200Mb is a hefty chunk to be cutting out - but if you dont mind risking a dual-layer coaster ...

What if your divided your file (or all files within one zipped) into two, burned them to cd/dvd.
Then when you want to use them again just copy them back to a hard-drive and rejoining them, then use the files again from the internal drive!

    Splitting tools like:

At the moment I have all the data on a hard disk (& backup hd). They need to be in one location for installation purposes. I tried an installation after I deleted 200 megs of what I thought was useless foreign language files but the installer would not allow it.

In the advanced options of nero 7 burning rom there is an option to allow over- burning. This max value must be set between 4488 and 4600. Thats fine for a single layer disk but there is no option for dual layer.

Does anyone out there have nero 9 installed - If yes, what are the overburn options?
