    Folks,

Don't really know what to do here. Had a root canal done couple months back in Ireland with my local dentist. Had a root canal previously done on another tooth by American dentist on west coast couple months prior to that which was done really well - he's an expert really. Now I had problems with yet another tooth couple weeks back here in States and ended up getting another RC done. When taking X rays of the tooth done by the Dublin dentist he said that that tooth had not been completely filled (as in the Dub dentist didn't get all the way down one of the canals) and that it was sub-optimal and would need to be redone, as the success rate would be very low. He also said that the filling was really big, and quite poor too.

Now I am not sure whether to get the RC redone on that tooth (I am booked in for it on Wednesday). I do trust this dentist in States and he is really good but I'm just wondering is it a bit over-zealous and if I should just leave this tooth for a while (also if it does fail eventually - as in within months/few years - could I lose it altogether, or could it just be redone then??)

    Thanks guys....

a root canal can look sub optimal on X-ray but be clinically fine. One option is to keep the tooth under observation? but with a large filling in place it's always best to have a crown placed, which is expensive and not worth putting over a poor root canal.
if you could post an x-ray it would be good?

I don't have the X-ray to hand but when I saw the x-rays at the surgery the root canal filling put in by the dentist here in States looked very white, bright and full, while the one put in by the Dub dentist looked kinda faded and didn't reach down to the nerve (this tooth is harder to get at, it's the one next to an extracted wisdom tooth).

The American dentist said that the Irish dentist didn't get all the way down to the bottom of the canal, but that he would have gotten all the way down for sure.

So don't know what to do - if I wait and see and keep it under observation will it be ok to get a RC done at a later date if necessary - or is the risk having to get it extracted higher if I don't get it redone now..?

    Not sure ....:(
